Pot-Bouille (Pot Luck, 1882) takes us back to Paris and Zola's observations on Parisian apartment life, a relatively new housing arrangement that became increasingly popular during the Second Empire.

The novel is the tenth in the Rougon-Macquart series and was suggested by Zola to be read as the seventh.
