Women's History Month: Activism & Achievement in NYC (~10miles)

Details

March is women's history month and Manhattan is the epicenter of the Suffragette Movement, so let's walk in her shoes to see where history was made and where those who made it lived & worked. This year's them is "Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories". Click the link to learn more.

We'll begin our tour in Washington Square Park to visit several notable suffragette locales, then walk north through 5 city parks (Union Square, Bryant Park, Central Park, Riverside Park & Morningside Park), pausing to see the 5 monuments that are erected to women out of 150 overall! Yep - that's only 3%, though the situation is changing 🙌

Pace will be moderate, mostly on pavement/ some hills, with pauses at historical locales and many drop off points along the way. The first half of the walk will be through bustling midtown streets/ many traffic lights so it will be your responsibility to stay together with the group or catch up at our next rest stop which I'll announce as we get underway.

Some notes:

  • We will START promptly at 10:45am so arrive early enough to use restrooms/ get coffee if you'd like
  • Bring water, snacks & a light lunch
  • There will be a lunch break at benches along Literary Walk in Central Park midway through the walk
  • Restroom breaks at Washington Square Park (start), in Bryant Park (mile 3), in Central Park (mile 5) & in Morningside Park (mile 9), noting the end time of walk is largely dependent on how long we stop at restrooms

We end at 122rd Street & St Nicholas Avenue in Harlem with easy access to the 2, 3 and A, B, C, & D subway lines + lots of great women-owned restaurants in the area if you'd like to grab a bite before heading home!
